Took my 08 m8 out last week for the first time since I put the slp exaust, intake and power commander v on. i'm running a 44/36p dalton helix, factory spring, and 63g weights and hitting 7900 rpm at 7200' and have a track speed between 40-45 mph. I'm curious on what some other M8's are getting for track speed with the setup their running, even what stock m8's are getting. i think i need to pull more rpm's.

You need more rpm to make the peak power of the SLP pipe set... Wife's 08 (2008), has SLP pipeset, RKT head (13.5:1), Boyesen reeds, SLP intake kit, boondocker box, STM exhaust valves, RKT torsional kit w/ 38/34 helix, cat green in secondary, Cat yel/white in primary with 69g weights. Sled is running stock gearing, and a Challenger Extreme 156 x 2.5" track - pulls 8000 - 8100 rpm @ 7 - 9000', track speed is between 48 - 52 mph depending on snow conditions.
I would recommend that you reduce the finish on your helix, and ideally reduce the starting angle - use weight rather then helix angle to load the engine. It was also noted that the 08's didn't need a fuel controller with the SLP setup - are you using 2010 mapping? I added a BD box ONLY to increase fuel in the midrange to prevent part throttle burndowns on the trail.

I have a new secondary all set up wth a rkt38/36 helix which i could try, i'm afraid if i add weight i'll loose more rpms. I also weigh 280 lbs before i gear up. my map i got from racinstation, and it seems to be working very well.

So is everyone measuring their track speed on a lake run? Some of these numbers sound a little exagerated..... Except Bee, I'm sure your seeing that track speed with your mods. Lol:)

I don't ride a cat so this is pretty unbiased...rode my buddies 2007 M8 with a 162 with a can no other mods i suspect all stock clutching. 4000' in about foot or so of powder. It pulled about 45mph more or less in a climb that was about 200metres long slopes ranging about 45% up to 80% at steepest point. It was working coming over the top but held track speed well. On that same hill same day same rider with a M1000 stock 162 was pulling 55-60. My XP with a 146 was 45ish as well.

Start with the helix change. Bear in mind the shallower finish angle will pull more rpm, so that alone may be enough to achieve optimum operating rpm. Also bear in mind that chasing the magic rpm number is almost pointless with a stock tach, as many are off by 2-300 rpm. Clutch by "feel" - you'll find the sweet spot. If you find you're heading in the right direction but not quite there, I'll swap you for the RKT 38/34 (wife is a bunch lighter then 280, and sled is only a 156". PM me with any questions.
Thanks, Karl
