Everyone who drives it just has a class 5 and air... Despite being 83' long it really isn't that bad to drive with the automatic transmission. Yes it is air on the coach and hydraulic on the trailer.

You can operate a 5 ton single axle on a class 5,throw in air brakes, air endorsement, tandem, class 3. Anyone driving that in B.C. with a class 5 is illegal.

Looks like we will have to be changing our drivers schedule this season, as it is clear that we will need class 3 drivers.

Class 5 Licence

Permits an operator to drive:

  • A two axle single motor vehicle, excluding a motorcycle
  • A two axle motor vehicle towing a trailer with one or more axles, if the trailer is not equipped with airbrakes
  • A recreational vehicle or any combination of a recreational vehicle and a trailer, if the trailer has not more than two axles and is not equipped with airbrakes
  • A moped
  • Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 type vehicles, for learning only
No holder of a Class 5 operator's licence shall operate a motor vehicle:

  • That has a seating capacity of more than 15, while that vehicle is transporting any person in addition to the operator
  • To transport passengers for hire
The minimum learning age is 14.

The minimum licensing age is 16.

Requirements: road test.
Vehicle for road test: any two axle motor vehicle excluding a motorcycle.

No restrictions on weight in there. This is because the weight of the vehicle determines what kind of braking system and how many axle's it needs. And if it's more than X it's gonna need air and if it needs air, you gotta have a class 3 if you aren't pulling a trailer, class 1 if you are.
That said if it's a tri-axle behind an RV, you gotta have more than a class 5-regardless if it has air or not.
The "Q" endorsement only says that you have completed the air brake course and can apply for a learners for class 1 and 3 and I think maybe be permitted to operate 3 axle farm vehicles with air.
