I've been thinking of putting on outlaw radials in the back and a less aggressive tire up front like roctane on my maverick max. I'm thinking it might be easier on front axles and steer a little nicer? Has anyone tried this? Thoughts?

try it out let us know how it works! as long as they are the same circumference could work.
I have ran front tires backwards to the recommended direction, didn't really notice much difference, other than being pointed out many times by field tire experts.
I think the greatest difference would be from less pushing on the right foot.

I don't know if it would make enough difference to warrant the cost . Also you when side hulling a multi directional tire will slide less than a mud tire, on muddy off cambers...jmo.

Like Imdooing said make sure they are the same size. Not all tires are what they say they are. My mega meyham say 28" and measure 27-1/4".

i ran mudlights/ outlaws, worked ok , but looked redneck as f#(%. ive seen on highlifter guys run mud buggs / outlaws, edl/outlaws , looks better because the tread is similar .

as for size difference , run 2wd when ever on solid ground .
