This is a heads up to let you know the Canadian Avalanche Centre has issued a Special Public Avalanche Warning.
Regions affected:
North Columbias south of Valemount
South Columbias
Kootenay Boundary
South Coast
The main concern is that the metre or so of snow has fallen on a weak interface, which will likely not settle out by this weekend. Slides could be triggered easily by riders in many areas this weekend. This weekend also coincides with a period of clearing weather, which naturally will draw people into the mountains.
We're urging riders to select appropriate terrain for the conditions in your area and, as usual, not to group up at the bottom of avalanche paths.
