iv read so many threads on a few different forums about this topic that my mind is spinning circles. the 09 service manual shows this...

Bearcat 570/570 XT/F-Series/
T-Series (500/570)
0644-496 1.507 in.

Bearcat Z1 XT/Crossfire/Z1/
M-Series/TZ1
0644-427 1.655 in.

however, many say to use the 496 tool rather than the 427 tool that is called for. WHICH IS CORRECT??????

Arctic cat say 1.655 BUT

I have a 09 M8 i too, aligned with 1.655, i try to get alignemement at 1.507 but i needed machined the rear of clutch.

But i try it at 1.585 ((remove 2 x 0.060 shim = 0.120 and when you align you need to put 0.010 at 0.060 clearance between fixed sheave and bar (my clearance set at 0.050) so 1.655+0.050 = 1.705 - 0.120 = 1.585)) and my clutch/belt temp is colder than correct alignement at 1.655+0.050! this summer I went machined the rear of my secondary (remove 0.090) and now it's right for 1.507 bar, 0.048 clearance with 0.060 shim behind.

all this explain for saying: 1.507 is more better than 1.655 bar! if you cannot get right align with 1.507 bar, machined your secondary. I read on HCS than 1.655 bar is right for 10'' secondary and 1.507 bar is right for 10.4'' secondary because the opening/closing distance is different and need a different alignement.

I hope this help you!

Heads still spinning! I guess you could try less offset do a test for yourself. Put shims back in and compare. If results are positive machine back of secondary. Could the differing opinions and results be becuase of different riding conditions / track speeds? For example would one offset work better for high speed trail when the secondary is opened up ... and a second for boondocking with the secondary not as open? I run the factory setting (1.655) on my 08m1000, but in hard running boondocking, my clutches are smoking hot.

If I remember right, you need to machine the back of the secondary to actually get a 1.507 offset without the clutch contacting the dd.
