OK, so lots of snow out there, cold temps forecasted, possibly going to cause some hoar frost or weak layers in the snowpack. Eventually we are going to get more snow on top of this.

Can anyone tell me what year this should remind you of?

third column over (mean [average] temp), hint - look at Dec 13.

Lots of snow + cold temp break in between + more snow = potential for high risk

Ride safe.

These were taken Sunday, Nov. 29/09 in Harvey basin with about 1.2m of snow. I haven't got all the technical details but in the two photos you will notice 2 crusts near the ground. I think the highest crust is between 34-39cm. The lower crust between 15-20cm. The snow on the ground was wet; you could easily make a snowball! There was no hoar in the snow pack; just metamorphising facets. The low compression test failed on the storm snow and the medium compression test failed on the top of the top crust.

Cold temps, if they last long, will definitely not be in our favor.
