But mom, can't we play instead of work?

Well poor old Atticus has had a rough go of it lately. It all started about two weeks ago. We were in the back yard, and as I was watering trees the dogs were ripping around the yard as they generally do. Stella is short and often ducks under the 5th wheel to lose Atticus. Well he cut it a little close to the corner of a slide and ripped his back open. The tear was about 2" by 2".

Of course this happened Friday evening, and in my haste to get this sewn up I did not go to my regular Vet. I will spare you the pictures of the result of that. Anyway, he ended up with a significant infection and a mass of dead tissue. We had the tissue removed last Wednesday, and after the wound healed enough we were referred to a specialist to get it closed yesterday.

It's been tough for him, not getting his regular 10k+ walks every day. But he is finally on the mend, showing significant improvement. Not going to lie it's been tough on us too. Hate seeing a one year old pup at the vet that much, sedated 3 times in 2 weeks. But now that he has received the care he needs, it won't be long before he is tearing around again. The drain comes out Saturday, and the stitches about a week later.

Weird, bottom pic is supposed to be top. That is the initial wound. Obviously it went downhill from there

Luckily he still likes camping! We stayed in Spruce Grove while he had his appointments at Guardian in Edmonton. Can't say enough good things about that facility.

Good on you for getting Atticus the care he needed and getting him on the mend!

Thanks! Its been a journey, but its good to see him happy again. Now the challenge is keeping him from getting too crazy before the incision is fully healed. He is remarkably tolerant of the drain, and the shirt that he must wear for about another week. Functional and stylish lol.

Please send good thoughts to my 12 yr old Jack Russell . She got bit by a Rottweiler on Sunday. She's sore but the vet says she'll be fine. JRT 's are a tuff dog. She's got about 20 stitches in her back end. But could've been worse

It's my fault it happened and I'm taking it pretty hard. She's very important to me and I love her to death
