what would cause rpms to quickly drop away on a climb for a second and jump back instantly? happened when a buddy was riding mine, and when i was riding it down hill it seemed to act like it hit nuetral for a second then came back to full power. 05 renegade 800 ptec, i year old motor. clean clutches, bushings all good but the one in the spring cup was .002" over the limit. not great but i'm doubting thats my problem. i dont feel confident riding it far out in the backcountry as is, but i dont want to take it to a shop and dump a bunch of money in to it. its time to upgrade.

how much fuel in the tank, might have just exposed the fuel pickup in the tank for a second causing a sputter.

any new holes or cracks that could allow snow to get to the belt? almost sounds like it's slipping. checked your chaincase? if it ain't the motor, that leaves clutch, drivers and chaincase. No 'notches' in your ramps?
