So I diagnosed part of the problem on my 1996 Summit 670 that was only barely running on one cylinder. I found that the rotary valve isn't working. I haven't pulled the cover off yet, is there anything that I need to know before I rip into it? What would cause the valve not to spin?

Everything looks good on the outside, I must have stripped the gear inside... bummer.

I am surprised it still ran. Yes there is a brass gear that drives your rotary and water pump off the crankshaft. A new gear is abot 30 biucks I think there is also a little spring that sits in there as well order that at the smae time as your gear. You will have to totally remove the engine and split the case to repair buy a seal kit for the bottom end and do all them at the smae time to also good time to inspect the crankshaft and connecting rod condition as well. just did this job on a buddys ride last summer if you have any questions don't be afraid to pm me ill get back to ya as soon as I can
