I am finally in a position to purchase a new sled for the wife. While I like the Polaris chassis for obvious handling reasons, I am hesitant to purchase due to increased risk of engine failure. I have witnessed 6 of these engines blow-up over the past 2 years; essentially every Polaris PRO RMK 800 owner I know. Albeit some longer than others but nothing over 2000 kms. Is there a difference between the 600 and 800 CFI engines or do they both suffer from the same piston skirt issues?

Please chime in.

The 600's don't have engine issues. we have a 600 for my son and have never heard of engine issues on them

Wife took a demo 13 pro 600 out, she was not at all happy with the power(coming off a 08 m8) it seams harder to ride with less power, not sure how to really explain that.
She will be getting a 800, just not sure what brand yet.

600's seem pretty bullet proof. Got the GF one and its a blast to ride. Plenty of power, not quite like my 800 but still I have fun on it and I'm 6' 200lbs. She does way better on that compared to her M, says she can go up stuff at half throttle that her M wouldn't go up and she can actually hold a side hill now. I wouldn't be afraid of the 13 or 14 800 either.

I had a 2010 800 dragon. thought it was the best ever until last year. blew the engine up 3 times.went out and bought a 2013 600 rmk. rode that for the end of the season and loved it. way better than my dragon ever was!!! now have a 2014 800 RMK pro 163 and have no regrets. I have taken that 800 into places that my dragon would never go and i push that sled more that I ever did the dragon. my 13 year old son thinks the 600 is the best sled out there.

Wife was coming off an '06 M7 and it has been a very good sled to own reliability-wise......hence my apprehensions. However she is 115 lbs and can barely budge that thing. Not to mention that if my sled craters I have a spare to lean back on, so I am glad to hear that because I weigh in at 225, so piece of mind there for sure! Thx

Thanks for your response! How many miles has your son put on his sled? Mountain riding?

Since we live in the mountains all the miles are mountain riding. I put on over 400 miles at the end of last season and he has only gone out 4 times this year due to my 4x4 shift. he will be out riding with me this coming weekend and for the next 3-4 weekends

If we don't get snow soon my 2014 Pro RMK 600 155" will be for sale. This is ridiculous. 65 miles on it for the season. Its not even broken in yet. God please give us snow and I mean lots of it. You will not be dissappointed with a 600.

There is a good post about this very subject on other forums as well. There are also some good peeps on here that have both the 6 and the 8 so you will get lots of good info on this. I researched for a good while before I pulled the trigger. I also called a several different reputable engine builders and they helped in my selection as well. As you can tell, I haven't got tired of the power yet as the time period between each ride is a while so every time I ride, its like a new sled to me.

I would not be scared buying a 600 or 800. My 13 year old just graduated from a 600 IQ to a 700 Dragon and now to a 800 Pro. I know its a total pain in the a$$ to put a fix kit in but once in you have a reliable machine for 1000's of miles. 600's are super reliable.

Thanks guys! Anyone else have concerns?

I have both. 2500 hard km's and the 600 has 105 and 110 compression. Never overheated, stock can and good synthetic oil. In the shop now to see if Poo will do top end under warrantee.

Very happy with power up to this point though it just started dropping rpm.

The 800 only has 1250 kms on it so we will see.

How much oil does it use? Mine is just down to the add line on the tank after the GF rode it 250 miles. Ive been dumping an oz a gallon in the tank and Im gonna turn the oiler up. Its a MY13...
Estimating here but she rode it 5 times, if she used 6.5 gallons a ride and 2 quarts of oil that puts it at 65:1 without what I put in tank... Way to lean imo.

Interesting on the 600. What year is it?

agreed. and this was another concern I had with these sleds..... I have another friend that does the same as you. Adds oil into the tank as well!

As per dynotech results the 600 pro comes in at 114 hp. The 800 pro 146hp.

And just so you doo guys don't get your pennies in a knot your pogo stick suspension, narrowed up, etec is putting out a 155hp.

but who cares about that.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

My wife has a 2013 Pro RMK 600 - her previous sled was an M8 with a full SLP package including head, and a 162 x 2.5 CE track. She rode it stock last year with a can and enjoyed the sled a lot, but it is what it is - a 600 will not have the snort of an 800, period. This season, we were going to trade it on an 800, but couldn't find a dealer to take it in without being raped. So, I installed a Carl's Cycle 660 big bore on it and did some suspension work - in her words... " you'll have to pry this sled from my cold dead hands." The 660 pulls the same flyweights as the 800, feels lighter due to less crank inertia, and is a hoot to ride, as it spools up like a blender. Obviously the shorter stoke engine still doesn't have the torque of an 800, but it will go anywhere an 800 goes with a good rider on it. If your wife was riding an M7 - the power delivery of the stock 600 is very comparable, but in a better riding / handling modern chassis. The 660 big bore gives up nothing to a stock 800, with more fun factor. Hope this helps.
