just rebuilt top end in 05 scrambler 500 back together now but will not idle thought carb so pulled apart and sprayed through jets thouroghly with carb cleaner( was thinkin pilot jet plugged) made no difference then removed intake boot and inspected it looks fine apply light layer of silicone between manifold -engine and reinstall still not idleing if you touch the throttle it seems to run fine but as soon as you let go of throttle (just above idle) it dies
any input would be greatly appreciated

We had an 04 that was very similar, was always playing with the throttle cable to get it to idle.... then it would idle too high, turn it down, stall out.... was a never ending battle.

Bad safety throttle switch? Does it shut down immediately after letting go of thumb? Or slowly die?

Have a buddy with a similar issue, rebuilt the carb about 4 times and no change, then he tried a carb off another machine and it ran great.

Service the carb properly. Spraying carb cleaner through it doesn't do it.

Thanks for the tip andrew and Rhodesi it was in fact the throttle safety switch (just out of adjustment)
