I just picked up a 2018 pro 174' X 3' and curious to know if the factory gearing is sufficient? I plan to ride it a little first and see whats what with it but am kicking around the idea of either a gear down for the current chain drive or switching to a TKI. (just based off what I have read about them so far)

Thoughts?

I think they top out at about 115 kph, so I think the factory gearing is pretty reasonable.

I also believe factory gearing is good but the TKI is nice. We run one with and one without the TKI. 850's however.

The factory gearing is 19/44 or 2.32. which is a decent gear ratio. If you want to gear a little lower going to a 46 tooth bottom sprocket will get you to 2.42. You will also need a longer chain. a 76 pitch. Clutching will also help as the 174 has the same clutchng as the 155 from factory.

Just to compare... SkiDoo 163,165,174,175 stock gearing is running 21/51=2.42 for the newer modeLs... but the book recommends for the mountains 163,165...19/49 = 2.57 and for the Skidoo 174,175...21/53 =2.52 ...and on the165,175 FacTorY skidoo TuRBO SToCK is 21/53=2.52 ... And that's a turbo ... Hmmm??keep in mind the skidoo is running a 16 wide tracks ... So just something to think about...for when your Running wiT the biG BoYs like... MaXi Pad-dle ... .hahaa ...I would look at the Polaris 174 gearing to be as close to 2.52 gear ratio as PoSSaBLE or just a little over .... 19/48= 2.52 19/49=2.57 or 20/51=2.55 chek wiT your Polaris dealer see what they offer for gear options and chain length .. cause ya can never have enough track speed in 2-3 feet of fresh poW going up hiLL...in the MounTaiNs ... Meow !!!!!
