Looks like some Deto. But yes ch!t has been floating around for sure. Take a look at the end of the ring where the piece is broke is it shiny or black with carbon. from what the pitting looks like i would say that this has had a couple miles on it since this happened. If it was fresh you would see cleaner pit marks.

Boy that piston and head looks like a girl i use to know she had freckles everywhere:yikes:.

I've been runnin this head for easy 1500 km,the motor has just under 5700 km.Im thinkin its was just overdue for a top end.I was going to do it this fall then i seen maxwell had 7000 km on stock pistons so i figured i give her a shot...no biggie parts r here this wendsday, just cost me just under 900 instead of 350...

yes, locator pin helped along with a little detonation. Other piston failed because of deto, ring caught the port after the pin fell out as well . same thing happened on both sides of the motor, only difference is the pin bounced around in this side. You can see the marks on the piston start exactly where the pin was located when it came loose. Because the same thing happened on both sides, its pretty much a sure sign that you do not have enough octane for your compression.
