Hi everyone,
As a family with 4 sons and significant others, 4 younger brothers and their families, we enjoy lots of winter and spring sledding in the Ontario north country. We try to rent a cottage in the Parry Sound area or east of there, just below Algonquin Provincial Park in the area of Huntsville/Dorset which is almost 3 hrs north of Toronto. We ride 3 Polaris 08 IQ Turbos, Polaris 02 550 Trail 2 up, Polaris 02 340 Indy Lite and a Yamaha 08 Nitro. We have owned and ridden several AC 340 Panthers, 500 Cougars, Bearcat 440 in the 80's, several Ski-doo 500 touring sleds, a 700 Touring Sled in the 90's and currently riding Polaris and as we replace sleds...starting to go to Yamaha for their next generation of 4 strokes. This may be our last weekend riding since we have been getting lots of rain and temps 40-50F. Fortunately its snowing in the north tonight and we expect temps to stay at or below freezing until Sunday after which its forecast to rain again. Yuck! All the ice huts are being pulled off the lakes no later than this weekend or they will sink or float away! The trails can handle the rain for a few more days and as long as the groomers get out, they will touch up the trails for one last hoorah!
I also ride with a fantastic group of snowmobilers called Great Northern Ride (www.[B]greatnorthernride[/B].com) who in our 12th year continue to raise funds for challenged children groups. This year the GNR with about 80 riders, are loading 4 tractor trailers with our snowmobiles double-decked and hauling them from Ontario out to Newfoundland for a week long 1-1.5k spring ride the last full week of March. Newfoundland (Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation - Home, Thursday, March 8, 2012.) is an absolutely spectacular spring snowmobiling location! Wish you could all experience snowmobiling in Ontario, Quebec and NFLD! Awesome. Happy safe spring sledding everyone.
