MISSING PERSON/DECEASED PERSON-SNOWMOBILERS
****************************************************************

On the above date and time, five Edmonton area snowmobile enthusiasts were out
snowmobiling near Whitecourt. During their outing, one male decided to run his
snowmobile on open water on the fast flowing and deep Athabasca River.

As he did so, his machine did not make it across the open water, and he and his
snowmobile submerged into the open water. A second male tried to help the male in
the water, at which time the rescuer fell into the fast moving water and he too
disappeared under the water.

Police, ambulance and fire department were immediately called to the scene. S.T.A.R.S.
was called to assist. An R.C.M.P. helicopter is on scene today, flying the river in the
hopes of locating the second male.

The body of what is believed to be one of the missing males, was located in the water
approximately two kilometers down stream from where he initially fell in. Edmonton Fire
Department Water Rescue is on scene and is assisting with the recovery of the body. They
will also assist with trying to locate the second missing male.

One snowmobile is under water in the river.

Alcohol is believed to be involved. The investigation is continuing.

My buddy from WCT told me this morning. Sad. But what he heard is they both drowned, but unconfirmed.

Wow, just heard about this from the neighbor, supposedly the rescuer lived around the corner from me. Condolences to the families.
