22-250 for coyotes! Best caliber out there IMHO. little spendy for gophers. Try a .204. Sweet gun as well. Maybe a little light for coyotes but will definatly get the job done! I have killed plenty with mine. Not much of a .223 fan. overrated for the .22 caliber. the 204 or 250 are both much better choices.

By dogs you mean "prairie dogs"? Or coyotes? Thought you just moved from Lacombe or was that Mirror :rolling:

Ya my .204 is my funnest boom stick for small defenseless critters unless there camp squirrels then my 870 marine magnum comes out to play :d

Should of clarified that. Coyotes is what I meant

I have a ruger 10-22 and my bro shoots the 17hmr. The 17 is an awesome gun when you learn how to compensate for wind. 150 yard gophers pop like balloons and it puts yotes down pretty easily as well.

x2.

love my 17 hmr.. use it for both gophers and coyetes. 3x9x40 burris scope

will shoot the center out of a water bottle at 100 yards no problem

but if strictly yote hunting then will use the tikka t3 lite .223 with burris fullfield 2 4x14x42mm scope

Look into a .204 in either a remington model 700 or savage in a model 12. Very nice guns lots of accesories for both. .204 will take a coyote down at up to 500 yards no problem. Either way look into these two rifles and they will shoot a whole lot better than you can. I am going to be picking up the savage model 12 VLP DBM in a .204.

6mm Remington. Remington's version of the 243. I reload so shells are cheap. You can use it on gophers right up to deer. Versitile and relatively inexpensive. I load 85 gr for varmits up to 105 gr grand slams for deer. Next to no recoil and the bullets haul the mail....

This thread is like quaders trying to pick a tire good for both nice tail and heavy mud, when there are tires good for either or, but none 100% perfect for both together...

Sounds to me like you need to buy two guns!!!!!

You should just John Wayne it , 30-30 Winchester lever action!!!!! way more fun the a .17hmr or .22 if you ask me.....probably not the cheapo route tho....

X2 on the 6mm, cheap to reload. I use speer 75gr HP for coyotes and 100gr Nosler for deer. Just watch where you shoot the coyote if you plan on skinnig them as the speer's basically expolde on impact.

I ended up getting the ruger 10-22 with a tasco scope. Shot 250 rounds last night and very happy with it. The .17 hmr was a close second but I had a pretty low budget.

Should do the job. Cyclones seem to work well in 10-22's. You have probably seen the steel lip mags for them. You can also get a mag loader that works well in them. Makes loading up a pile of 25 round mags alot easier and quicker.

What do you mean it wouldnt reload itself? You could not get more then 10 rounds in the mag or at 10 rounds the 11 wouldnt load into the rifle?

Well it's almost like once there are more than 10 rounds in the mag it applies to much preassure to the top shell and the bolt can't push it into the barrel you have to give it a little push but once the mag gets down to about 10 shots it works fine.

Could be the mag or the rounds you are using too. Did you buy more then one mag? I know that some heavier rounds like the 40gr would get caught up on our rifles. Try a different mag if you can(if you were close and mine were not packed up I would lend you one to try) and try a box of cyclones. They feed well. Should be able to eliminate the cause pretty easy.
