They mount to the rails! Search the M series forum for Ice Scratcher's, lot's of info here on the site already in place for M series owners
I just ran out side with a flash light and snapped this photo for you!

You should have pre drilled holes in the rails...my 09 has.

The predrilled holes on the 09/10 are for the scratchers from cat only I believe. You will have to drill new holes if you buy the after market ones.

I just used the pre drilled ones and drilled them out to 3/8s which is what mine needed.
