Well the Ministik Trail System is OPEN for the season
We have spent 6 days with up to 11 guys/per day clearing fallen trees / stumps etc
The trails look very good but you must use caution
DANGER: -
Ice depth is about 6" on most lakes but you still have to watch for springs and slushy snow.
Mud and ice heaves will be very bad this year. We are already seeing large heaves appearing and will get worse as the cold temperatures arrive.
Rocks - With the lack of water the ice surface has receded and there is about 30 to 100' of mud between the bul rushes and ice with lots of rocks now exposed
Remember that you must have Registration, Insurance, your drivers license and a helmet to ride the trails. The northern part will be patrolled by RCMP and County of Strathcona Bylaw officer and they will ticket you
Will probably groom next week before Christmas after this cold snap to help thicken the ice for the grromer weight and then when the temperature warms up so as not to break the equipment.
Please do not go exploring and open new trails as we are ordered by Alberta Sustainable Resourses to close any trails that are not registered on our maps as snowmobile or horse trails. Just make alot of more work for the trail maintenance crew to close these down each year. Please just stay on the trails
