lost spark on '99 670 MXZ.....

hoping to find help on testing stator, coil and/or cdi to hopefully diagnose my lack of spark.... still have compression, crank turns... it's been suggested I check the above mentioned components, and would like to learn how to test before resorting to pulling apart.. any help would be deeply appreciated....

I lost spark today on my 98 HO ,turned out that the little rubber nub in the middle
of the tether was wore down enough that it wasn't pushing the button in enough
on the post.My dess has been removed so ,this info may or may not help.
