Was looking at getting a pair this year. Looked in some past forums but there's not much info. What are some brands to look for that would be light and comfortable all day? CTi ones looked nice, and Evs. Looked at the asterisk ones to.they seem popular. It might be too bulky for sledding. My friend broke his leg in valemount last year. Might have been preventable with the right gear.Any input?

CTI Motorcross is the only way to go IMO from what I've seen. I bought one after I tore my ACL, wouldn't ride without it. It even stays planted when using it in the water.

I was reading that you're better off spending the extra and getting the custom cti's over the other ones.better fit. Gonna lok into that.Any idea where the best place is in edm to try them out?

Or get a custom Gen 2 made by Paradign( spelling?), they are made in Vancouver. A specialist can take a mould of your leg, they send it in and they will make you a custom brace with lifetime alterations and warranty in whatever color you want. The lifetime alterations are real nice because with bad knees your leg dimensions will tend to change over the years, generally getting smaller as time goes on. I got my Gen 2 in 2006 and use it faithfully everytime I ride. Never have had an issue with the brace so far as function and it holding together. It is actually gone back to Vancouver right now getting re sized for me as my left leg dimensions have shrunk over the last 6 years. The brace is quite costly though, I do believe it was somewhere around the $2200 mark, but I will have it for life.

YEs, get the custom fit CTI motorcross. Dont go off the shelf.

I have a pair of custom fitted ossur ctis as well. Definitely don't go off the shelf! When you get them, the 'motorcross' part is additional accessories, sport sleeves, patella cups, etc

Yuuup, I like having the knee pad in for sledding. I'd like to buy another brace for the other leg, nice security even if it isnt injured !

Specialist will probably tell you that if your wearing it for work don't wear it for more than 6 - 8 hours at a time, I work 12 hr shifts and I was told to only wear it for 2/3 of my shift, I don't even wear it any more at work because it was making my leg weaker. If ya only work 8 hr shifts then your good but anything more your supposed to take it off. Also not supposed to wear them everyday as you become dependant on them and in time you will weaken your calf muscles which in turn will cause your knee to actually become worse. Knee braces are a good tool when used properly but miss use will lead to more problems. Have had multiple left knee problems for the last 8 years, torn acl, mcl, miniscus (which now is almost completely gone). I have two titanium plates and a bunch of screws holding together what was once a very strong knee

I know. I only wear one when needed. I dislocated it 5-6 years ago very badly. Brought it back into usable shape alot faster then doing physio and listening to the doctors at the time.

stay away from Don Joy's.
do not let them suck you in, they are junk. Broke 4 pairs in 6 months MX'ing and never crashed. I have had my CTI2 for 4 years and not one problem. I have a torn PCL and with them on my knee is bullet proof. They are not cheap, but quality is never cheap.

Did anyone get them paid for by health care whether it be company or provincial?

Mine was fully covered under my health plan, I had to get written word from my specialist to say my knee was bad enough I "needed" it, but that was no problem at all. My knee is so bad my doc figures I'll need a half replacement by the time Im 40, and a full replacement by the time Im 50
