wear a godammed helmet. finding people you love with crushed in faces is not a image that goes away. accidents happen anywhere anyplace even 10 feet away from your trailer. wear the freakin things.

trust me fashbacks of these images are vivid and come without warning at anytime and they include the screaming, crashing and crying sounds. never mind the after images of seeing your loved ones who are unreconizable in the hospital breathing though a tube.

here is a first hand account of how bad you feel. terrible, sad, sorry, concerned,devastated, are all words that have not enough meaning to descibe how it feels.

buy a helmet and freakin wear it. it might not save your life but you can sure as hell bet it will improve your odds. if your at a casino i'll bet you are always playing the best odds, why not try having the best odds with your life. afterall if the house takes it all you dont get it back.

Yep, I had a ramp malfunction a couple of years ago while loading my sled on the deck. The ramp, (10' one piece steel framed about 75 lbs) blew off its anchor point while loading. My sled pushed the ramp forward and up into the air, then it came down right on top of me and my sled like a fly swatter. No helmet on. I was lucky to have been able to put my arm up in front of my face, (absorbing some of the impact) when the ramp hit me in the head and knocked me off my ride into the snowbank. Stars, bruises on my arm and a major black eye was all I suffered. If I wasn't able to get my arm up it would've been much, much worse.

Always wear a helmet!

Very well said. I find it perplexing that the law says you have to register and insure your quad, but you do not have to where a helmet. The wife gives me crap if I even try to unload the quad without my helmet on...

man, the same thing exactly happened to a dude in Kakwa about 10 years ago. except he took the full impact of the ramp right on top of his head and it almost scalped him. peeled his skin and hair back from his forehead to about halfway back. they pushed his "hair" back onto his head and wrapped it with a rag, pulled a toque over it and headed for GP about 2 hrs away.

I had an incident like this. Ramp kicked out while loading the sled, bent my front bumper in half and was more than capable of punching my teeth into the back of my throat. It didn't hit, but looked like it did as everybody who was around stopped and gasped, staring silently, until I got off my machine and wasn't bleeding. We discussed how damned close it was, I put my helmet on and loaded up without issue. Coulda been so much worse, but luck had my side and I was able to walk away. I don't load without a helmet on anymore.

I never ride without a helmet! Safety first! I need to start remembering to take the damn thing off before I try and lick the windshield tho...
