Is the DTS Avalanche Beacon a good beacon to get?

Yes there are better. Do your research online. Google Beacon reviews, etc.

I paid in the range of 450$ for mine, but it's money I'm spending on my, and my buddies health.

Just remember though, no matter the cost spend on a beacon, if you don't know how ot use it, it's worthless.

Get a beacon, make sure it's a good one, and then LEARN HOW TO USE THEM. Test yourself often and be prepared for the worse.

Then have fun on your rides =)

Justin,

I have a Tracker and it is extremely fast, intuitive and reliable. I've seen people flail with other brands; they tend to be more complicated and overloaded with unnecessary features. If I were buried and somebody was looking for me I'd want them to have a Tracker in their hands. Think about it from that perspective :)
