Highway 16 closed west of Jasper to B.C. border

EDMONTON — Highway 16 west of Jasper is closed all the way to the British Columbia border, RCMP said Tuesday morning.

The highway was shut down before 8 a.m. due to bad road conditions and accidents, according to a news release. No other details were available.

There was no indication when the roadway might open again.

Highway 16 Both Directions
Vehicle Incident from Junction with Highway 5, in Tete Jaune Cache to 30 km west of British Columbia and Alberta Border (49.4 km). The road is reduced to single lane alternating traffic. Updated on Tue Jan 12 at 10:30 am. (ID# 91111)

apprently the roads were a sheet of ice from blue river to clearwater (south) this morning so our bus driver deiced not to go. when its around freezing temp this rain is really bad

yes but if the road crews get on it sanding, plowing or whatever the closier reason might be, the earlier the cops will open that particular section of highway up for access :D

EDMONTON — The highway west of Jasper is open again after a pileup involving more than 10 tractor-trailers and a sanding truck forced police to close it for several hours Tuesday.

Poor road conditions were blamed for the collisions, which started 10 kilometres east of Moose Lake just after 3 a.m.

B.C. RCMP closed Highway 16 from Jasper to Mount Robson Provincial Park as a result of the accident.

RCMP Const. Craig Douglass said crews were still working to clear the road in the early afternoon.

No one was seriously hurt in the pileup.
