Help! headlight bright and then suddenly dims

I have an 85 indy 400 L/C and the headlight works fine,nice and bright then intermittently it goes dim both high and low beam,any ideas?

On my 700 rmk it was the voltage regulator it is a common problem with Polaris's.

yes it is your voltage regulator, down on right hand side behind chaincase with one yellow wire coming out of it. get an afertmarket one for about 20 bucks
