Free On Line Introductory Avalanche Course

Came across this on the Canadian Avalanche Association website. I haven't taken an Avy course...YET, so I took the time to do this free on line course. I thought it was excellent! Took me about 3 hours total to do all the required reading and scenarios and answer all the questions. I know it doesn't replace an actual course in the field but for a Avy Newb like myself, I learned a lot.

I've done this before as well. Very good use of time and great for info. Tests your knowledge and covers a lot of material taught in an AST 1 course.

The downside? It's not a replacement for the AST1 or more advanced courses. It doesn't teach you things hands on, doesn't get you out there with a beacon in mock senario's, and doesn't let a personal instructor show you the in's and outs.

Either way, great test for a refresher once or twice a year.
