Going to post this here and the xp forum to get the most exposure as I need answers or ideas asap, so please help! I have an 09XP blah blah blah and I decided to install the bikeman performer kit this season. Installed everything as spec and torqued to spec etc. Fired it up and ran for about an hour to refil cooling system ( was completely drained) and it ran fine, idled but was way harder to pull start im assuming due to the extra compression of the head. After this I had to pull the y pipe to fix something and i noticed milky oil and alot of oil in the pipe so I knew i had coolant getting in somewhere. Pulled the head last night and everything looks good but can tell that the coolant has been getting in. So my question is do you have to replace the o rings everytime you pull the head? you could see where the o ring left a mark on the shiny aluminum of the domes and it was continuous so i dont think it was a case of the oring not sealing, I'm stumped????

Also when it was running the smoke trial was normal, usually coolant in a engine will burn white.

Help!!!

Yes you should change the O-ring each time, same with old gaskets when you tear something apart, fresh ones every time. What color was the gasket that came with it? Was it melted more (as in leaving bits of thin rubber behind) then the original one when you tore it apart? I've seen it where they've sent an o-ring that doesn't quit hold up to the heat.

Everything looked good, first time the heads been off on the motor and it has low miles so I fiqured it would be ok. I'll change them now for peace of mind but hope that seals it.

Water will only come from head gasket or base gasket. Of course, a bad o-ring will do it to. My leak came from cracked case. Hopefully, you fair better.

replaced them and that solved it, the old rings were compressed .007" from the new ones.

Only takes a little bit. Should change them every time especially when you rebuild, doesn't hurt. They'll compress and won't fully rebound, plus it will compress in different spots and such to suite the head. Good that solved it.

Was the power difference worth the money? I'm thinking of doing the same kit

Oh, I havent rode it yet, but the throttle response is definately snappier when just reving it in the garage, will do the first ride locally next weekend then the maiden voyage to the mtns for MM6.
