1250 would be the max in any range. if hitting higher than that lets say at mid range, then just richen the mid range by lifting the needle or changing the needle etc. Same as WOT if lean increase main jet. I wouldn't run over 1250 any where.
Mid rnage is usually the one spot guys over look and melt down the engine because it's too lean. Not just cruising on trail at mid range, but if you climb at WOT and let off to steer or theres a bump or what ever, thats when i seen most lean out. The second you let off the throttle a bit it can get that quick flash of too lean and you're done.
when i had my 860 i had it dialed in to run around 1220 to 1250 in the mid and 1180 to 1220 at WOT. That way on a really long pull i knew it wasn't going to lean out. The longer the pull the more heat is built and egt will climb. A little rich is safe.
Anytime I tried to tune the midrange egts below 1250 I lost engine response, it would get sluggish. Of course this was on twin piped and carb'd engines.
Also, don't go by just egts, wash should be checked at multiple constant throttle openings. The egts then can be used as a verification at any time once you know the baseline.
