Dual purpose video camera...what to buy?

I'd like to get a camera to use as both a helmet cam for sledding and use it for work as a dash cam....I have no idea what to look for(make, model, specific features) so any suggestions would be great.

A couple details...
-I'd like to keep it under $300 if I possible
-Can the video be uploaded directly to an iPad or do I need a computer hookup?

Be a hero, get a GoPro.

GoPro copies are under a hundred bucks and just as good. Bought three of them last year (so I could keep one!).
