Just got a set of cpi twins for my 2001 summit 800:d. it has v force 3 reeds, spi top end, and a big john clutch kit with slp weights in the arms. Now i need a baseline for what weights to use in the clutch, what clicker to have them set on? and what jets to use (6-8000 feet) Cpi says 660 mains?? in the constructions it says to gut the air box, would it be better to run pods or does gutting the airbox work better???

now also looking for a secondary clutch.......

I use pods on mine but think I should have just gutted the air box. Pods freeze up on me all the time even with the pre-filter screens. If you do go with the pod route then you may have to re-check the jet sizes.

Was that 660 at sea level or at 8000'? I am still having a hard time believing there is almost a 20 main jet size jump on those pipes.

i installed a set on an 800zx and it was still lean with 560s hwoever i think the problem was not jetting related..something wrong with the dpm.

im still confuised LOL :d:beer:

01 came with 500 and now your down to 410.

the 03+ came with hooded needles and therefor started at 400.

are you running new carbs to get that low?

im pushing it trying to get an 02 down to 450s with rkt 827 and full exhuast.

i do now have my 03 heated carbs on it but still with original carbs i ran 410.my 01 has boyesen rage cages with pods, power wings, full ceramic exhaust, with a 05 motor in it after the original grenaded after 5000 hard kms.

Are you guys using the "N" jets? Had to go back and look at the fuel flow curves, 660's aren't flowing much more (538 vs 455) if you are using the standard jets and not the "N" series.

How do you tell if they are "N"? and do they flow a bunch more fuel or what sets them off from the non "N" as far as performance?

In 2002, Mikuni and Polaris figured out that the 520 main jet actually flowed more like a 495 and flowed less fuel than the 500. So they changed the # system for the main jets larger than 520.

Tech Bulletin: To remedy the situation of non-linear fuel delivery at the upper end of the Mikuni main jet numbering system, Mikuni has assigned new jet numbering designations to main jet sizes above 500. The new jet sizes are selected based on a more linear progression of fuel flow. The new 510N jet (Polaris part #3131400) is actually an “old” 540 main. The new 520N (#3131401) provides fuel flow equal to a 560, the 530N (#3131402) is equal to a 600, the 540N (#3131408) is a 620, 550N (#3131409) is a 660 and the 560N (#3131410) is a 700.

If you're running 660s and its running good and plugs are good, then I wouldn't worry about it. Its just #'s and the fuel flow is what matters. The old 660 is the new 550N, so you haven't jumped that many jet sizes in reality.
