I'm looking at getting a nice mid-level DSLR camera. So far this is the one that catches my eye. I am by no means a photographer, so I just want something that is easy and can take really nice pictures! BUT I want a HD video capabilities, and a 'Live Veiw' screen, rather than looking through a sight everytime.

Does anyone have experience with them?

Do it! I am biased tho: I started with a Rebel that took film, moved up to a digital Rebel when my 3rd was born, and soon moved on to the big pro cameras that I use now. IMO, this is an Awesome entry level DSLR for newbies to the game. Good price and quality images, especially for those new baby photos. You won't find the video feature as handy as you would like, as the focussing is a bit clumsy, (especially with moving subjects) but all the still cameras that offer video have a similar problem.

Couple recommendations:

Please use the viewfinder versus the LCD live view if you can force yourself. Holding a camera 2 feet away from yourself is not the best way to have complete control over your shot. This becomes very important in low light or low shutter speed shots (ie; indoors).

Learn how to focus manually by changing your focus point. I will show you how via video if I have to. Auto focus just can't do the job that you can...

When you start looking at accessory lenses (and you will) I highly recommend the 75-300mm 4.5-5.6 USM, preferrably with image stabilization. Awesome lens!

Have fun :)

I knew you would come to my rescue! LOL Kevin agreed to buy me whatever one I pick out :D, but I just want to make sure I am making the right decision for that kind of money!! I am sure once I get it, I will be surfing the net and teaching myself how to use it. If I have any questions I will PM you.

I will likely use the viewfinder for most pictures, but in the instances that I can't have my face right at the camera I think the Live View will come in handy - rather than blindly shooting and hoping I'm getting what I want haha!

As for the video, I don't think I will be taking much, but I'm assuming the quality will be better on this camera than our iPhones.

We are going to the city this weekend, and more than likely will be picking it up then. I have read some really great reviews, some of them wayyyy to technical for me, but many people who write reviews for them are well versed in camera technology and list all the pros and cons. I think I can live with the cons, as there a very few.

Agree with Mamma!
I have an older Rebel, no vid, but still love it.
Got pics and vid for Sledbetties from a T2i and it's great, stands up against the other HD camcorders and vid cams pretty good too!

Frick...I'm the Arborist....ugh, sorry Tam here :)

I bought my wife the Nikon D3000 for christmas and its a fantastic camera. She is now looking into photography courses. Its a really easy camera to use and it came with a pretty good warrenty (I can't remember the details). It does not have a video feature which kinda sucks or a live view but the view finder works really well. Thanks sledmamma for the recommended lens's, the wife has a birthday coming up.

My wife has the T2i and loves it...She has taken some really great pics with it, and has no photography background. We tried the Nikon D5000 and it was too complicated for her, but she loves the Cannon.

My brother in law sells camera's. This is the one I will be getting before I go on vacation in Feb. He is out of Medicine Hat. They will compete with the big cities on prices. You can call him at 403-526-9599 and ask for Shane tell him Mark (arcticdodge sent you):d
