Year-to-date sales still in positive territory... but just barely.

DesRosiers Automotive Consultants is reporting a 2.7% drop in the sale of light vehicles in April 2018, compared to April last year. The year-to-date number is still in positive territory – although just barely.Almost 192,000 vehicles were sold in Canada in April, compared to just over 197,000 last April. The drop was largely due to the dramatic dip in passenger car sales, which went from over 66,000 units last April to just 58,083 this April – a 12.4% decline.Light trucks, on the other hand, were up 2.2% to 133,773 units in April 2018, compared to just over 130,000 in April 2017.The four largest markets in Canada – Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia – were all down.Despite the slowdown in April, year-to-date sales remained just slightly above the record numbers in 2017, with a 0.4% increase for 2018 thus far.
