So I took the top end out of my 12 XP and in turn took out crank bearings, PTO cylinder and piston, as well as deposited a small amount of aluminum around inside of the head. I can pick a few small pieces out but most of it is stuck in there pretty good. Is there any way to save it or am I stuck buying a new head?

I've tried to pick it out a little but nothing really aggressive.
As far as domes go it doesn't look to me like they pop out but maybe I'm wrong. Just a stock 800 head.

I would, but try soaking the head in some kind of degreaser. Should help loosen up some of the carbon/oil/ash residue

Very carefully scarpe out what you can without scoring things to deep.
Be agressive, don't get me wrong.
Take a dremel and finish then repolish with that and it should ne A Okay to go.
Domes look good but I would use a fine emery cloth with oil and polish them up.
Time and patience is the most important factor when doing this.
