most machines have a regulator /rectifier that have up to 5 wires coming out of them ,usually 2 yellow that receive a.c power from the stator ,this is referred as the lighting coil output .A red wire will carry a 12 -16 volt dc current that will supply juice for the lights and instruments and thats the wire you need to tap into .you should track down a wiring diagram because colors can change . My Doos regulator has 5 wires 2 yellows ,1 red ,1 grey for the tach signal and of course black for ground .Hope this helps.I guess this being an older post you may have it solved lol.
