Any Other Cabbage Fans?

Just finished up the last of this year’s sauerkraut. 23 gallons worth in all, just under 200lbs of cabbage. Grandpa passed away a few years ago and so Grandma has given me all the stuff and now I give her some sauerkraut in return each year. I’ve enjoyed experimenting with some different vegetables and varying the ferment time - really amazing how many different flavours you can get.

This is a picture of some we tried with carrot this year. Ended up with just over 100 of these containers this year. Wife will be happy for the house to start smelling normal again now haha!

If i eat sauerkraut, the house smells anything but normal haha.

I love the stuff. My grandfather used to always make big batches of it when I was a kid.

Been there done that!!

Back in 2013 Costco used to bring these in and they were delicious! When we were in Elkford the growing season wasn't long enough to grow very many different vegetables without a lot of early season and late season cover. So we didn't have a garden and we resorted to buying our cabbage rolls. Cabbage is a wonderful vegetable and cabbage rolls (with meat in them) along with sauerkraut and cole slaw are three of my favourite cabbage dishes. Oops forgot the pictures.......

Mmmm cabbage rolls. Minus the sauce on top. Faux pas through the Ukrainian in laws eyes. I agree with them.

Slice a piece of cabbage about the size of a burger. Butter it and season with seasoning salt, pepper etc. Winner.. kids thought it was dessert.

Cabbage rolls with sour cream and ketchup on them. Perogies cooked in butter and onions to go with them. Also a big fan of coleslaw with creamy sauce, not the vinegar sauce

We usually make about a 150lbs worth every second year. When we go out for the day riding I will bring container of kraut to load onto the campfire cooked sausage in a bun loaded with mustard :wtg:. An oven pork roast with a half a quart sealer of kraut over top the roast is awesome!

My wife has been getting into fermenting. She makes her own crocks at her pottery studio now. A good friend of ours in pincher creek is an expert on the subject. Pretty cool how it all works.

sister in law is locked down in grand forks due to a move for the “why the F not” now that you mention it..... very cool to search their fields and see all of the doukahabor left overs. My kids love every trip cause we always find a new historical piece. Great food in town as well as at her place lol!

you got something against the grand forks folk? Ha ha

are all u guys from grand forks ??

my wife lived there for a few years and has many friends there still

Yup I agree.

Best Borsht in Grand Forks.

When we lived in Midway.
Trips to Grand Forks shopping and dining.
