2014 Summit 600 Electric Start Issue

My 2014 Summit won't start (often) with the electric start. Battery is fine, and I can hot-wire it by connecting the seleniod posts, or batter to the seleniod with a screw driver - starts easy. I replaced the solenoid thinking that was the issue, but same result. I have checked the fuses, and they appear ok. I also cleaned all the battery connections. What is strange is that once in a while, it WILL start with the start button. Any suggestions?

Mine was the ecm not giving the solenoid - ground . Once running, it shouldn’t give - ground… so rer works. I ended up using a princess auto switch instead of a new ecm.

I had a friend with a very similar issue on a skidoo he tried a lot replacement parts before he found the a ground wire below the battery compartment had rotted off

If you are capable of measuring DC voltage or have a test light it will help you figure out the problem. If the RER works going into reverse with no issue each time you press the button that rules it out & associated wiring out. When you press the RER button & the motor is not running it wakes the ECU up, as sledn stated a switched ground is applied to your solenoid. This is how they can use the same button for start & RER.

To verify with a meter or test light, connect a lead to the positive side of the battery. The other lead to the switched ground wire in the solenoid connecter. Press the RER button & you should battery voltage or a bright light.

You also want to verify the other wire is goin +12vdc when you press the RER button so you connect to the negative side of the battery.

It's rare the ECU has this problem, so I would be digging into it thoroughly & not guessing. When you make measurements remember the cct is unloaded if you have unplugged the connector, so if the measurements do "not" indicate a fault that doesn't mean it's true.
