2012 F150 hating Pirelli Scorpions

As above, going into second winter with my 2012 F150 Platinum SuperCrew, came factory eqipped with Scorpion ATR tires. They are OK in the summer on dry pavement but suck everywhere else.Got by with them last winter cause I just didn't knowwhat to go to.NOT gonna do that again after yesterday, have about 5-6 inches of heavy wet packed snow on the roads with ice underneath.With the Scorpions you are helpless in the truck, can't stop which is bad enough but can't steer it either.Why they would put these tires on a truck destined for western Canadian market I don't understand.Anyhow I would like to go to an All Terrain tire, slightly taller and wider, has P275/55R20 now and have a 2" front levelling kit.
Anyone have any experience with a truck like this, what's the largest size I can go without rubbing issues, and recommendations for a decent replacement tire suited for our icy roads, also when pulling 24' enclosed sled trailer sometimes...

Buy some x-ice ones there michelins and you won't want to go wider, wider is worse in the winter

For a 1/2 ton the best winter rubber I've ever had are the ones I'm running now, and I had the chance to try dozens over the years with company trucks: Firestone Winterforce with studs. However, I think they only come in "P" ratings which is OK for a 1/2 ton but probably not recommended if you are towing a big trailer...likely need "LT" tires. These tires were recommended by my bud Pecos (on here) who has an auto repair/tire shop. He runs 'em on his wife's rig and we have a few other buddies who run them as well. I use the "auto 4x4" and it's like driving on dry pavement all winter....

Edit: and they are priced real nice...which wasn't something I cared about, but a nice bonus.

Those scorpion tires are a complete joke of a tire. herucles winter truck tire. Cheap and works awesome!!!

Wow could not agree more about these Pirellis, why would they even put them on a 4x4, wife has Scorpions on her Lincolm MKX AWD but they're even a better tread than these crappy ATR's. Junk!
Ran BFG All-Terrains a few years ago, worked good but tread life wasn't great. This probably 6 or so years back, anyone know if they're any better now?

I had Michelin LTX AT2 on my Toyota they were pretty good. I have an F 150 and take the Pirellis off in the winter. They sucks especially when it got below -20 it was like driving with plastic tires

Yep just using the chitty Pirelli's for the summer only . Ford don't care when they sign a contract with Pirelli to supply million plus tires I'm sure they just care about cost. Fact is though I probably won't ever consider a Pirelli again .

I just put some studded duratracs on and there far superior over the toyo at2 extreme's I had on until today

Took my pirellis off at 40000k. Listed them on kijiji for 100 bucks for all four and still took two months for me to sell them. All around junk tire.

I put 900kms on my pirellis then roasted the piss out of them and sold them on kijiji for 400 bucks in the same weekend. Put 33" toyo mts on and they seem to work great

275/60R20.... Have 2 sets of rims with that size on them, offset around 13mm out from stock. No rubbing Perfect size for a levelled f150 IMO. Could probably get away with a 275/65/20 with a stock offset wheel. I know theres guys that got up to a 35" on a levelled F150 but they look retarded and eat inner fenders.

Yup been looking have several options in 275/65/20 looks like that's the size I'll go.Just not sold on the BFG yet want to look at some others too.

Same issue ,have 2012 platinum first snow fall last year went off the over pass down ramp at the Anthony Henday doing 30 kph just kept going straight wouldn't turn. Wouldn't use those tires for a tire swing. went to the dealer and they said they haven't had any complaints. Look on Kijij its full of those tires.

I'm running 305 55 20s on my 2011 with a 2" kit only rubbed once last week when the ice was built up lol. Even the back tires were rubbing :)

has nothing to do with the tire, as you stated they worked great in the summer on the pavement, but that's pretty much what they were made for. Not exactly a winter tire

With anything larger than a 150 don't bother with Michelin LTX AT2 - they are not a good winter tire, they are horrible actually, I drive a F350, and those tires came stock -they are quite, they are smooth, but they are horrible in snow and ice - i'm a fan of winters for winter, and "all terrain" for summer - just my opinion - North america is the only market that has an "all season" tire. for the winter I run Nokian Hakka's LT2 - best winter tire you can buy, the perform very well with out studs, and provide awesome traction with a heavy truck.
