I'm an auto tech.

Wouldn't touch one of them with a 10 foot pole.

It's not worth a engine. Get it done at a pro shop.

Plz don't do it urself.

But I'm trying to tell mystic man not to change the belt himself.

Cause I'm sure that's what he is doing.

I just did my timing belt on my 03 tdi and I had no special tools and it was a piece of cake. I locked up my fuel pump pulley with the right size drill bit and the reast was easy. Go for it but I cannot speak for the 04 as it may be different.

Why waste your money when you can do it? It would of cost me 700 buck to have a shop to do my civic, I got 200 bucks worth of parts and did it myself. It sucked to do it but it wasn't complicated and my engine ran perfectly after. I am not an auto tech.

I know you were just looking out for him. I was just teasing you. A lot of VW owners are hard cord "do it yourself" kinda guys. Will spend hours, days , weeks researching to save a buck :). I am one of them ;-)

Civic is way different. I could do one of them with my eyes closed.

The vwv diesel is so touchy to do with 0 room for being one tooth off even turning the engine by hand. Can bend the valves.

Isn't that what a straight edge and a sharpie is good for?

I had the same stuff to watch for, my civic also has an interference engine and you can damage the valves just by turning the pulleys the wrong way. Putting a belt on with the timing marks in the right spot is a straight forward process. I'm sure the tdi jetta can't be that hard.

The compresion ratio is 2 times with the t.d.I.

Hence the more valve issues
