ok i just gotta vent here a little bit.
specifically ordered o/s piston, rings, pin, base and head gasket for my sons 2 stroke scrambler last week, pretty simple order right? pretty hard to screw that up you'd think? well a certain Polaris dealer just west of edmonton had no problem screwing that up. they got in everything but rings, instead of rings got some kind of air cooled fin rubber things, wtf? not even for this machine. wouldnt common sense on whoever took my order, received the parts, or call me to say the parts were in would look at the order, see an o/s piston and think, "hey, wonder why some guy would order a o/s piston without rings?"
now our weekend ride is not gonna happen, and the attitude of the young parts guy who hopefully reordered them right seems couldnt have cared less.
maybe i'm just too picky expecting a higher level of service from an OEM dealer

That would pizz a guy off for sure!!!

When I have to order from a store, that I don't know anyone at. I make a point of looking or asking to look at the screen to make sure "they" are ordering the right parts. Unfortunately, most of the younger parts orderer's don't have a clue. By showing them what I need hopefully makes them a better parts person. Just another food for thought, cause I don't have much luck with the same certain store here. You might want to try and research another dealer that works for you. There is a good chance that they are a supporting vendor here too.

If it's anything like around here they pay minimum wage and for that you don't get the cream of the crop. As soon as they get a little experience they go anywhere that pays a little more and we get to start over with another one.

Was at a Polaris dealer on the south side and I thought the help they gave me was great, even gave me a breakdown sheet in order to install the parts right. I guess that is the difference when getting parts, is being there. Regardless that really sucks when you don't get the parts you need.

Microfiches are all online...I just look up the parts myself and email in the part numbers and quantities I need. It's simple and I haven't had an order screwed up yet. Unfortunately it seems you have to do the work for them these days if you want it done right.

I learnt that trick years ago. I won't call the order desk until I have the part numbers I need in my hands. Unless its Rainy Creek I'm talking to. Their parts peeps are awesome... Might have something to do with the amount of Polaris parts they sell in a day though :rolling:

That sucks to hear your ride got ruined. I know that every time I need parts I go down in person, I have lots of free time fortunately, and the parts people at my dealer always pull up the parts maps so that we can both be sure we're talking about the same parts.

bradj... just a heads up on the 400 polaris. Its a strong motor, but the factory OEM pistons are known for cracking on the skirt. Wiesco is the way to go!

This and a dozen other reasons are why I buy almost all of my parts online now. If I've gotta go online and look it up for them....and they don't have them in stock anyway....and I have to pay full price up front before they'll order it....might as well just order it from the comfort of my own couch!

K I have something funny to interject.......... I help out in parts once in a while.... I am learning.. so I usually have the person come behind the counter and look at the diagram... and Point to the exact "thingie" they need.. pretty good success that way. Our customers are more than accommodating. Awesome people..

There are, however.. those who phone and make me chuckle....
"good afternoon, pretend parts girl Trish at your service"
Hi.. I need a battery.
"Ok what is it going in"
My quad.....
"Ok what kind of quad"
Honda.....(for example)
What Year is it?
I don't know I bought it used...
Ok what CC is it?
I am not sure.......
Can you give me the serial number?.
Ok one second I'll check....
The serial number is..............4
Ok.. that isn't the serial number...
and it goes on and on..... They are thinking.... "Ahhhhhhhhhh stupid girl... get me my battery"... meanwhile.. the other parts guy is peeing himself laughing beside me, with tears streaming down his face..... Ahhh good times.....
And I can't even begin to tell you about my reaction to Petcock, buttplug, nipple..................
Parts... Good times good times..................

That's hilarious....and too true! Some people really shouldn't be riding motorized toys huh!

I must admit though that Mainjet may be the one exception to my previous rant. Always had good luck there. My son just picked me up a new belt there last week for considerably less $ than I'd have to pay around here.

There's your free plug Trish! Ahhhhhhhh.....make that "endorsement"! :p

ha haa! Thank you!
It was awesome.. when he came in and introduced himself I said.. "HEY!!! I love your dad" when I am doing parts I actually do answer the phone like that... Just to give peeps a heads up... if they are on the phone, I'll even scan the diagram, email it over and get them to look at the diagram with me... sometimes their word for the specific part isn't what is in the microfiesh thingies.. so it works out well when we are both looking at the same thing. I'm pretty good with Honda Polaris, and Stihl parts... Batteries, oil filters and cross referencing spark plugs. Other stuff.. I put my CSI Grissom hat on and start digging for information. It's kind of fun!

I called a yamaha dealer for a price on a C.V. joint, front axle on an 03 grizzly 660. The parts girl responded "whats a C.V. joint?" I gave up and called another dealer.

Thanks canamgirl, I have no issues with female parts people, if they're good at what they do. But then again maybe she was just filling in for someone who called in sick! Cycle works has been pretty good so far.
