Long island lake map of trails and stage area

Hello all. I'm going to Long Island lake this saturday and cant find a trail map of the area. I staged at the free camping past the hourse stables once and we rode around that area (North) of 634a. I feel like we missed all the good trails. we found lots of trappers trails that were posted no go! Do you head south or north in that area. Any info will help. Thanks in advance.

What kind of stables? Is that like the Pinto Ranch.

You can head a few hundred meters further East from there and turn left at the Stop sign. There is another Staging area right there. If you continue to follow that road after you turn left, it is a short cut to the sand hills. From there, you can head North and East. It's pretty skeggy and can be really tough going in the summer months.

Thanks for the info I can see the sand pit on the map your talking about. The last time I was there we started off that way and then made a left turn on that trail and never made it to the pits.

Does anyone know Brazeau Dam area well? never been there yet and it's on the list to go. Is it worth it?

I don't know the area super well, but there's lots of trail around there. It's nice country, but there is quite a bit of mud and skeg. Some of the trail right around the dam and canals are beat up pretty badly, but as you start to ride away from the dam, there's no shortage of decent trail.

If you're camping, you'll probably want to avoid camping anywhere near the dam and East canal. There's a reserve down there and theft is totally out of control. They'll even raid your camp while you sleep - even in the campground.

Another good place to start is bit further North. Keep on going on 801 to hwy 663, turn East, follow for about 9km's (just past the 's' curve) and on the right there's a nice place to stage from. That puts you in the middle of the whole Long Island Lake system, the north end of the system you started at by the sand hills, and then the south side of the system that will take you all the way to Polaris cabin. The whole system is pretty linear, layed out n/s with the hwy on the west and lakes on the east, so it's pretty tough to get lost. Stay on the main tracks an you'll see some neat country. you can see on the map link where the trails start on both sides of the hwy.

Brazeau is a good area Shawn but not on my nice list as it is where my quad along with a buddy's quad got stolen the same night. Friends of ours at a different site lost 6 the same night on the other side of the river. This was in 08 but the problem is still ongoing in the area I think. Ours were not locked up but some of our friends machines were and they still went missing.
