    S.O.S. Communicator

Looking to buy an SOS communicator in case of an emergency in the back-country. Don't need one for text messaging, just a call for help if ever needed. What is your opinion on the 'SPOT' or 'inReach'? Or is there another one out there I don't know of?

The inReach has way more signal strength than the SPOT. we use the SPOT at work and it has communication issues due to less signal coverage. IMO, go with the inReach.

I had a spot and found you can only send I am ok message.

Last year I got the inreach that can text Etc.

Here is why. Our group was out riding sxs and quads. A guy swamps his sxs. We are 4 km from Outwest Campgound down in a creek and no cell service. All I could send was I am ok.

It's dark and we had to tow machine about 8 km. If I could have sent a text a person from camp could have came with truck and trailer and met us.

Basically my wife said get one that can send a message. I think it's 32.00 a month for features to be on.

    may snowfall come
on mountain peeks and lower valleys
give us this day blue bird skies
and show us the way to abundant powder
and lead us not into avalanche conditions
but deliver us to eternal powder
for thine is the powder the slope and the glory
    for ever and ever HIMARK

Never over. Always send a message before we ride for a test.

Use on the trail all the time.

I never suspend plan as we winter sxs ride.

The Inreach is nice. A couple of buddies have them.
I like my Spot II just because it's so easy to press the OK button to let my wife know I'm OK multiple times during the day. Spot has 2 other buttons, one is a special message. I've set this one up to send both a text and an email to a group of friends and family that lets them know we are delayed. The message is preset by me in the Spot account and lets them know it's nothing serious. The other button is a help button. Again, it's set to go to friends/family that I selected in the account settings. My particular message tells them that i need help. It's not life threatening, but I need them to get to my location. I can change the group of people or the messages the day before a trip or on my phone with the Spot app and cell service.
And finally there is the SOS button. I hope I never need that one. I've never had any issues with coverage. My wife gets all of my messages.
It's nice to have both in our group.
