Re:The type of people that say"oil is oil"

I have been doing alot of reading lately about 2 stroke oil's and the standards that they are supposed to live up to.I have read thread after thread about guy's asking for advice on this topic. The thing that blows my mind the most,is most of the people that don't have the slightest clue of what they are talking about are giving their advice in thesethreads.(API,JAYCO and ISO) have not tested or passed most of the oil's that are mostly recommended on these threads.IMO.if you aren't an experienced engine builder you should read and learn before you give advice. HCS. Had a 57 page thread recently on this topic.I read it from start to finish and was amazed at all of the "haters" that ruined the whole thing. As consumers we all are pretty much clueless as to the quality of the products we are buying.I don't understand why all of these oil's are allowed to be on the shelves of retail outlets when they haven't passed anyone'stest's except the guys that made it. I need alot more education before I decide what oil's to permanently use in my 2 sleds, but alot of advice givers need alot more education as well.

You should contact Salbendidi on the site here. He knows everything about oil and more than anyone else. He even hates BRP oil so much he sold his XP and bought a Polaris sled.

Re: The type of people that say"oil is oil"

The first thing just about every jug of oil say's on it is this product meets or exceeds TCW3 requirements.I'm thinking to myself.WTF? Are you joking?TWC3 was a 2 stroke oil requirement for outboard motors in the mid 90's (from what I've learned so far)There are many company's that claim their product is the best there is,and it exceeds JAYCO FB standards.Again I say WOW,are you serious.JAYCO FB is one of the lowest standards there is.JAYCO FC and FD are higher standards and almost no-one mentions them, because their product didn't pass. What we the public must understand is that every time we buy a product we are in a way casting a vote.Company's that sell products that don't pass ISO-L-EGD or JAYCO-FD should not be "voted" for. In a better world nothing should be on anyone's shelf available for sale unless it passed the above standards.

Re: The type of people that say"oil is oil"

Untill I started investigating ,I had no idea that TCW3 wasn't a standard that snowmobile oil had to pass.Every bottle of oil talks about TCW3.That is REALLY misleading .We are all paying big money for sub-standard oil's,and 99% of us have no idea.I'm glad I've learned a few things about 2 stroke oil in the last week or so,but i'm VERY disturbed that almost every oilI can find doesn't have a JAYCO,Iso or API rating.

Would that be Jaso-FD? I notice the Shell Advance Snow Ultra oil on sale at Canadian Tire exceeds API-TC, ISO-EGD and Jaso-FD. Some of the toughest requirements out there. Too bad B.R.P. does not list a spec.requirement!

ANOTHER VERY MISSLEADING THING............They SAY it Exceeds Jaso-fd standards, but Did Jaso test it?
or are they saying according to their own tests it passed?
I'm NO expert,But to my knowledge I think they can say it does pass when it never did.

It would have to pass a test by an independant lab to make any claim publicly. Whoever sets the standard would rarely test it.

Re: The type of people that say"oil is oil"

I use shell ultra it was approved by the chemist, good enough for me. Although his testing procedure are secret, i bet he will be taking a lot of flack from sub standard oil companies ....out to do great harm to him... too bad they where not out in the open and exposed. And now you have the answers to all these questions as to why the confusion to the ratings.

Re: The type of people that say"oil is oil"

I don't know a hell of alot about oil but I doo have a bunch of great buddies that have shops and rental ops so I asked them their opinions this was the reply. Amsoil was what they have been using for along time with no issues. I get by with a little help from my friends. Thanks Al and Pete and Tim for the advice.
