well i tore down what i needed to and i didn't have to touch the top end. all i had to do was remove the clutch, the stator and flywheel then the bottom of the case. seals will come right out and the case can resealed upon assembly. More like a 40% dissasembly.
Sounds like the main jets are clogged or possibly and issue with the needle and seats. Its more likely the jets though. First thing i would do is take the belt off and see if the problem still happens. If it doesn't its the clutch. if it does i would start with cleaning the carbs.
Though i do see your point in just going through the whole motor, but it was running good before the leak(nice tan/brown tipped spark plugs and all compression equal across the board). The reason why i am looking for a quick way out is because the riding season is short here in MA. So i want it...
Why wouldn't it be possible to just remove the engne from the sled, remove the clutch on one side, the flywheel/stator on the other and split the lower case to reseal the case leak and replace both crank seals?
I was riding today and i noticed that the idle was high and consistantly uneven. so when i got back i checked for leaks with some carb clean and found the engine to start to surge around the pto seal and also found there to be some oil leaking out of the case. So it looks like the case needs to...
I have heard that if you move the suspention holes in the tunnel for a 133.5" track 1.5" back it will make the obsolete size a 136". Has anyone tried this and did they have any clearance issues with the tunnel? Also does anyone know the deepest track a 94 xlt sks can take without rubbing? If...
Yea I have heard the port engines have have a lot of issues with low end bog. I am going to try to clean the carbs again and if that doesn't work i think i will start messing with the jetting.
Yea i actually talked to a guy at work and he seems to think the same thing. I did clean the carbs but seeing how I am still kind of new with them i probobly didn't clean them good enough or correctly.
I checked the boots they are good. I did check the crank seal last year by spraying a flammable aerosol on the seal while it was running and didn't see any difference in rpm's. The reason why i don't think it is an air leak is beacuse the sled idles fine.
I am having a problem trying to figure out what my bog is coming from. It happens right from idle and goes away after about 3500-4000 rpms. I have tried taking the belt off and and it still happens. i have synced the carbs with a uni-syn manometer at idle and off idle. The carbs should be clean...
