I spent last night reading the plan and all the materials. There's a lot there.
I don't know, guys. I think our advocacy might have worked. As far as I could tell, they say that the current motorized trail plan for the Bighorn Backcountry is going to be honoured, and its staying as PLUZ all...
I don't get it. Nordegg is proceeding with its rally. Sounds more like volunteer fatigue to me. It doesn't sound like they actually turned down the Sundre thing.
I'm for one glad there is at least some kind of permission process for big commercial or community events on public land otherwise...
Agreed. I think if its a directly across a stream on a designated trail in a place with no bridge you're fine. What about most crown land where there are no desigated PLUZ trails though? Hopefully they are being reasonable.
Just saw this - looks like Alberta has changed the rules so COs can give instant tickets now, instead of having to go to court + increased fines for a bunch of public land offences.
Press release here - https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=55943BD86018D-EB9E-88CB-CD69903AB3ADEDF3
List of...
That's a hard document to read. What I can take from it is that there will be a few more parks, but its in the western Bighorn where there aren't any motorized trails anyway. Did I miss something? Lots of riled up folks out at Dovercourt the other week being told closures are imminent but I...
Re: Y2Y Founder & Shannon Phillips public meeting to discuss more trail closures..
It was fake, remember. She was not in Nordegg. According to this, she's in Minnesota today, https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=511058A511A8C-A133-4117-40E5900C0F1E51BC so I don't know why riling folks up...
Re: Y2Y Founder & Shannon Phillips public meeting to discuss more trail closures..
Stop spreading silly rumours. Had a buddy attend today. Government bureaucrats are in Rocky and Nordegg asking for input on land use planning from locals - which is good. No Minister, no Y2Y. Chill out, folks.

Saw this story a few weeks ago. Doesn't look good for us. Guy who claimed he was on a bike and hit wire across trail actually hit fence while riding ATV without...
Random camping is still allowed but you need to download a free permit.

Unicorn dust? Hardly. Have you seen the projections for electric vehicles? It pains me to say it, but I don't think my pre-teen kids are going to be driving gasoline vehicles. Combine that with Trump implementing border taxes to penalize Canadian oil while supporting US shale and new oilsands...
Shell took a huge loss to get out of the oilsands but they think thats better than losing more down the line.
I wish CNRL well, but I think the glory days are over and never coming back. I wouldn't invest my money into a 50 year project as high cost as the oilsands, and there are dark clouds...
It seems like they have flippflopped somewhat. Watched the video too. ATV trails for game retrieval, snowmobiles likely to be allowed, some ATV access from the Pass.
Still the press release is heavy on the things they say families do - hunt, hike, fish and camp.
"The hikers and backcountry skiers are rabidly against everyone else. Talk about narrow minded and elitist. You'll never hear an ATV group calling for restricted access to other users."
Actually, you here it all the time. Dirt bikers upset their single track is getting trashed by quads...
Immediate closure of ATV trails in South Castle, all other ATV trails to be phased out and permanently closed in next 2-5 years. Pretty big change.

In the Court Pages of today's Rocky Mountaineer newspaper in RMH - "Creek Crossing Nets Fine"
Says judge gave $500 fine under Public Lands Act. Fishermen reported ATV crossing stream. Didn't say anything about stunting or driving down river.
Be careful out there, they are enforcing the law.
First of all - charge the parents. Its already illegal to ride unsupervised if you are under 14. Why don't they enforce the rules they already have?
Important to note though - its been illegal for 10 years for anyone under 18 to ride a bicycle without a helmet. That law seemed to pass with no...
Just back from a trip to the Bighorn Dam. Stopped for gas at the Nordegg Store and was surprised to see a 3-page handout from the RCMP with a whole bunch of infractions and fines identified.
Many of them were news to me. I had no idea it is illegal to ride in the ditches (from treeline to...
So, what's the scoop? I thought there have been all these petitions going around saying that Alberta was trying to close all the east slopes to public use. I see a Wildland Park in the Castle, where ATV use is still allowed and a few more parks in places we aren't allowed to go anywhere.
