Hi Greg. Sad but true. I rebuilt a 2006 YFZ 450 last summer that had been badly abused. Cost the customer over $5000.00. A few $$ cheaper than a new one! Complete engines are very hard to come by and are very expensive if you do get lucky. I don't think it will be as bad as he thinks. It is a major job but I'm thinking it could be done in the $1500.00 to $2000.00 range depending on how bad the bottom end is. Also the dealers in the city are so busy they will pick and choose their work. A big job like that is not on the top of their list. They like small jobs with lots of high mark up accessories. I will try to give you a call but I'm swamped this week and my phone rings steady all day. Please call me if you can or have your friend give me a call. I would be interested in the job or I would also purchase the quad as is if he just wants rid of it.
