Any door, even a hollow core one will protect the room behind the door. I’ve seen it lots of times. It’s the smoke, not the fire that usually kills people. Children’s rooms particularly should have the doors closed since kids usually don’t wake up from the noise of a smoke detector. Keeping the doors closed gives the extra few minutes that can make the difference.
If the mdf door is a rated door the core will be treated with fire retardant.
Rated doors have all passed burn tests.
Door not rated you likely have about 10 minutes before fail in a fire.
