With this newer trend of conserving electricity and people using lower output light bulb, what kind of bulbs are you guys using?

LEDs are great but in most cases the lumens aren't high enough for good light. Seems that the highest wattage these days is 120w. I want/need light in my garage/work area. I don't want a bright light on a trip-pod I want ceiling lights.

School me on modern day light bulbs.

We are installing LED fixtures at the shop and office as our old bulbs and ballasts site. Far brighter than the 4 bulb florescent fixtures they replaced, and they feel way better on the eyes too.

We also just renovated some of the rental space in our building and installed all LED fixtures in the T-Bar. They were adjustable output, and at full output (6k lumens) they were too bright for an office. Set at 4k lumens they were perfect. The tenant is a major insurance company, and they were very particular on the temperature and lumens.

I converted my 4 ft fluorescent tubes to led tubes. Some are direct replacements but I had to install and rewire the fixtures to make the LED tubes work.

Leds are brighter but the color of the led is just as important. I prefer a 5000k for outside fixtures and in my garage. In the house 3000k is plenty. You would be surprised how much more light a 5000k bulb at the same wattage is over a 3000k.

For our bulbs we run Phillips LED's in the Daylight color. But they only go up to 60 watt replacement.

For my garage I went with 6 of these lights. https://www.rona.ca/en/led-wrap-light-48-white-11005211

I prefer to have lots of lower output lights that diffuse the light instead of point sources like a few single bulbs. My garage is incredibly bright, many times better than the 2 150watt bulbs it originally had. At night the light through the overhead door windows lights up the driveway when the lights are on.

Yup, wattage means nothing on the LEDs really. A 30 watt LED fixture will outperform a florescent fixture with 4 32watt tubes.

In a shop what ever, but in a house I hate LED's. They put off a weird light that just doesn't feel right to me.

I prefer incandescent for in a home. My 2 cents.

Yeah maybe Ill have to try another shade. The ones I have suck..lol

I agree, Try a 3000k bulb Dan. Anything more than that in the house puts out a weird light. I also do not like daylight style bulbs in the house.

I dont use leds in the lamps in the bedroom, they are hard on the eyeballs in the morning. Lol

I have put in those led tubes in the florescents, not all the ballast will except them. What i found was at least 2x if not 3x the light for 1/2 the power. My son put in 4 of those costco 1 foot round leds in his lower basement 50x20 and 12 feet high. Man 4 of those lights threw some serious light. Not that expensive to try one out.

These look like the same ones that I put in my shops, they work really well.

Should have moved to Alberta Doug. Not sure if Rachels old free lightbulb program is still on but she would fly someone up from Ontario to even install them for you!
