Have a 2018 5.0 ford with 34,000k that burns oil like crazy. Work truck with the 3.5 eco that sounds like dry starting a motor with no oil, timing chain tensioner etc were done a while back. Any chevy guys having much for issues with their newer trucks?

It does happen. The Wife’s truck blew up at 115,000. 2015 gmc 1500 with a 5.3. She traded it in broken and got a 2021.

I've got a 2016, 5.0, Ford, 111112kms, half ton, never added any oil between changes, zero issues...so far.

Luck of the draw?

Talk to your dealer there should be a spec as to acceptable oil burn between oil changes. I'm assuming your still on warranty. I'd be pushing to have a new motor put in.

I think you just got a bad one, everyone I know with the 3.5 is happy with them. Now my brother has one with the 10 speed auto, the transmission has had a fair bit of work done and it still throws a funky shift every now and then.

Luck of the draw, I had a new Chevy 5.3, motor piled up at just over 5000 k, GM dropped in a new one that ended up with 300,000+ and never had another issue.

I drive Ford trucks and can't see myself changing. They may not be the fanciest or the best on fuel but have good power, everything I need in a truck and the big thing is in 40 years I have never been left on the side of the road. I liked the interior and features in 1992 of the Chevs so bought one as my friends had them. 2 alternators, tranny, rad leaking, wheel seals, power window motor all in 60,000 kms. Last one I have owned.

I switch between GM and Ford 1/2 tons pending how things work out at time of replacing .
Had a 2016 Ford 1/2 ton eco and the only thing good about the truck was the eco . Complete POS.
Lots of trouble in 88000 kms .
2017 Denali 1/2 ton and only a fuel pump at 87000 kms .
Now a 2019 Ford 1/2 ton with eco and only 49000 kms and so far only the seat heater quit working. Really good truck .
Jump viscosity of the oil in oil burner might help as well . If you’re letting it idle lots any of these new trucks will burn oil it seems with the 5/20 crap .

2017 Sierra 6.2 around 75 K. Collapsed lifter and bent pushrod. Meanwhile the 05 Chev 5.3 just rolled over 300 K with no major issues.

My last 4 trucks

83 Dodge 1/2 ton 360 gas, sold at 400,000+K
92 Chev 2500 6.5 T-diesel Sold at 400,000+K
05 F350 HD 6.0L (owned 11 years) sold at 160,000K
18 Chev 6.2 still have 36,000K

Tires, batteries, brakes etc etc etc...... Nothing major in any of them. Only reason I sold the Sic litre, at 150K I noticed a little moisture at the bottom of the head gasket. I know the truck is still on the road and running with zero issues

Their ALL, steel rubber and plastic and a complete luck of the draw

have a f150, 5l. so far been good truck, only problem was a back up camera, other than that nothing! i have found lots of times that it is the people who drive them, as the same people always seem to have problems, no warm up, foot to floor, no oil changes etc. over the years i found it best to let these guys go! was way cheaper.

Guessing it's older than a 2018?

Wifie had a bad run of luck with a few ford half ton ecos, made a bigger mistake took on one ram 1500 it was a pos, last 2 half tons full load tundras, old tech but seem bullet proof neither have seen a shop second is on 70k now. I’ve been on the export game with a new f350 every year 17 to 21, 19 was only bad one had a short in the engine harness, 3 weeks later ford had it fixed after cab removal to access.

Had bad luck with my 13 eco. Truck was solid but decided to eat the timing chain, guides tensioners etc. Went back to chev this time.
Slightly off topic, when I was younger bought a Pontiac g5 gt to commute with to school 500km a week. most reliable car I owned. Had a Subaru STi after that and was told it was a ticking time bomb. Just as reliable as the g5 and had 3 times the power. Dont think reliability can be determined by a badge imo.

I got a 2019 f150 5.0. The 10 speed is junk !!!! No other issues with the truck. The dealership is waiting for it to grenade before they will do anything to it. It clunks and bangs , sometimes it gets stuck in first gear. Other times if I slow down from 100km to 60km it can take 3 or 4 seconds for it pick a gear before the truck will start to accelerate again. And of coarse no check engine light
