Why 75% of vehicles on roads may soon be zero-emission

The automotive aftermarket will likely need to prepare for a large influx of zero-emission vehicles in a relatively short amount of time if a new report’s findings play out as it predicts.

Upwards of three-quarters of passenger automotive vehicle sales in Canada need to be zero-emission vehicles by 2030 if the federal government is to achieve its emissions targets, according to a report from the C.D. Howe Institute.

Today, zero-emission vehicles account for just 3.5 per cent of sales. This would require “a complete transformation of Canada’s passenger vehicle market,” C.D. Howe said in its summary of the report, Driving Ambitions: The Implications of Decarbonizing the Transportation Sector by 2030

Canada would need about 7.7 million electric or other no emission-vehicles on the country’s roads in 2030 — equal to 30 per cent of the total vehicle parc in Canada — to cut enough greenhouse gas emissions to achieve Ottawa’s climate plan announced in December 2020.

That plan projects a reduction of 213 megatonnes (MT) of greenhouse gas emissions (or 30 per cent of 2018 GHGs across the country) by 2030. Emissions from transportation are predicted to fall to 151 MT from 186 MT in 2018.

Earlier this month, the federal government changed its target to 2035 to have all new passenger vehicles sold in Canada to be zero emissions. The government also said it will set interim targets for 2025 and 2030.

The C.D. Howe report noted that targets could be reached with an increase in the blending of biofuels, a 2.5 per cent annual improvement in the efficiency of internal combustion engines and zero-emission vehicles making up for 30 per cent of vehicles on Canada’s roads.

“Understanding the practical implications of transportation emissions goals will support policy-makers in considering the trade-offs involved in achieving those goals,” the report states.

So we should all sell our gas guzzling vehicles and buy electric? The grave yard for gas vehicles is going to be hilarious! The closed up gas stations is going to be hilarious! The charging situation is going to be hilarious! Auto motor repair shops closed is going to be hilarious!

Who with any common sense dreams up these crazy ideas and then puts hilarious time frames on them? Only the hilarious Libtards under the hilarious leader Trudope!

Reasons to buy an EV…
You like to cheat on your taxes.
To support coal power generation.
You desperately want everyone around to know that you are a libtard that cares about the environment.
Help stress test the grid by charging at 80amps when the grid is overloaded.
You want to text or sleep while driving at 150kmh on highway 2.
Create a job for a 13 year old mining cobalt in a third world country.

1 huge problem they keep forgetting is that most of the electric infrastructure is not capable of handling that demand yet. Perfect example is during the heat way people asked not to use their ac cause it could cause brown out. Now add a car charging at everyone’s house. Going to be even worse. Plus the fact most house are only setup with 100amp service will have to upsize to 200.

Even if you strongly support electric vehicles.....3.5% of sales to 75% in 9 years.....who actually believes that can happen? I'll still be driving the truck I have now in 9 years.

What happens when the battery won’t by take a charge any more? I’m sure they have a lifespan just like any other battery, I don’t think the batteries are replaceable are they? If not is it basically a throw away car?
