The trains have been going past here slow enough you could jump on and start tossing timber off

yep

The new crimewave, lumber train robberies. Bunch of masked, tinted safety glass wearing heathen contractors with pouches of sharp and blunt weapons holding up trains...

Good article and video.

Lumber prices hit a record high after soaring more than 250% in the past year

  • Spot lumber prices hit a record high of nearly $1200 per thousand board feet on Tuesday.
  • Prices have soared more than 250% in the past year alone.
  • Rising lumber costs added more than $24,000 to the price of the average new single-family home.

Hopefully it returns to sanity soon but I’m not too hopeful....I’m looking to build a pole building later this year, but if lumber prices don’t come down I’ll be buying a steel building out of the states instead. I’m starting to think that the lumber companies are taking advantage of the prices and are deliberately curtailing supply....

Cant put a mobile on most lots. Has to be an area for that. Cant even put a trailer on. I got an idea, Mine will say job site shack, Muster point, etc.

You should have bought one of the commercial lots instead - Build a shop with living quarters upstairs and hang a sign out front for your business....

I got my call finally from BC Housing, I applied for a homeowner building license which is required to get your building permits. So I had to answer a pile of questions about the property, one was are you going to rent the house, or make it a vacation rental. How am I going to manage the build while I'm in Alberta. Will I hire a local construction manager. What is my experience with building a residential building. Those were just some of them. So now my interview answers go to the supervisor and they then decide if I can go to the next step to write a test on building in BC, with a 70% pass you can then get your license. This is required for your building permit. This process is long considering I applied for this 3 months ago. Should be able to get the shovel in the sand by next summer maybe after this permit process the way things are going. Almost as bad as the PAL and RPAL I applied for.

In Canada its almost like they don't want anyone to develop or build anything. The red tape is through the roof.

Took us 4 months to get a permit to build in Sicamous. My friend bought 23 acres across field from me, previous owners dug it up all over the place. He has is dozer and excavator hauled in to start cleaning it up and putting it more to it's natural state an preparing a home building site. District guy says he needs a permit to do it so he says ok, get me a permit. Seems that confused them.

Im going to Valemount in July to clear the lot of trees and mow down the neighbors encroachment of fence, garden and driveway. We were putting some matting and putting a gravel pad on the west side that will run right to the back yard. I'll make sure I can do that without permit, shouldn't be required its all short stumps. I was going to call BC 1 call, to locate the water and sewer line which clearly has green pipe coming from the ground.

In them hills.
The illusion that we own the land is almost laughable now days.
Can't dig a posthole without seeking government approval.

I have just received my letter from BC Housing:

We have received your application for an Owner Builder Authorization and are pleased to inform you that we have determined you are eligible to write the Owner Builder Authorization examination.
Please ensure that you present this eligibility letter at the exam centre as proof of your eligibility to write the exam. The exam login credentials listed below are required to write the exam. Please note that only Owner Builder applicants that have received this eligibility letter from the Licensing Department will be allowed to write an exam.

So I guess Im deemed eligible to build something on my property once I pass this exam.

2nd day got all the stups removed, abut 30 of them then removed the rest of the trees, left one. Then leveled out a 40 x 40 driveway put down some geotextile matting, 28 yards of road crush and 28 yards of 3/4 clear gravel on top. Neighbors are all great in all directions. Met Chirs and his family who have the WCL cabin nextdoor on the east and the other Chris and his family to the west. Darrell across the street was is a great neighbor as well, helped out with a disposal issue. The other 1/2 of the front driveway has the water and sewer lines below the ground so need to finish the foundation and the water service before finishing that. Rod from Adrenaline stopped by a few times, he’s pretty busy in town installing water services. lots of new construction taking place. Brian H and his wife came by and helped out for day they helped cut logs so they can be disposed of, then helped with the geotextile matting. Lyle (Catmando) stopped by on his bike. Even seen Curtis P riding an electric motorcycle down the street.
