If anyone is interested in knowing what the supply/demand looks like, here’s the resource.

As you can see, we’re about 2/3 natural gas as of this morning, with wind contributing sweet FA.

All that EV’s do is change where the smoke stack is located…

There is lots of people that don't know where their energy comes from, but I think that's changing and more people are becoming more informed. That's part of the reason I think so many in BC are switching to EV's, BC arguably has some of the cleanest electricity in the world and makes EVs more attractive.

BC is also very well positioned to add solar or wind to the energy mix, hydro dams literally store years worth of energy behind them, and hydro turbines have a very quick reaction time to come online quickly for when the sun doesn't shine or the wind doesn't blow.
There’s two wind farms I know of along the connector, iirc a HK company owns em.

Someone with a $100 power bill does not need a $40k system to go net zero. Mine averaged $120 and my system was $9200.
My hydro bills Average over $200/month and I need most of it during winter when solar is less efficient.
I use wood for primary heat, propane for backup but with 3 freezers full of meat, fridge, tank heaters for pigs and horses, well pump and a heater for pump house it adds up. Our hydro is cheap too being we are subsidized by the Columbia River agreement with the USA.
$9200 sounds like a pretty good deal, $40k was a budget price I got from a local solar installer.

They look pretty efficient compared to Wind at less than 50%.
Is the table a daily output or yearly to date?

It’s a live table, auto updates every minute or so.

I’ve found the BC one before as well, also interesting to watch.

How about that solar though?

It’s a bright sunny day today, and it’s contributing to the tune of 10.3% of demand. This will of course drop to 0% when the sun goes down, and contribute even less in short winter days when the arrays aren’t covered in 6” of snow. I would conclude that solar is not a significant or consistent contributor to the overall picture.

How much does 1 megawatt of solar cost to install? How much does 1 megawatt of solar produce in Southern Alberta annually? Some quick rough math...
1MW = $1 Million.
58MW solar produced 103.9 GWh in one year. Divide that by 58 to find out what 1MW produced. Which is 1.79 GWh or 1790 MWh, or 1,790,000 kWh.
At 10 cents/kWh that is $179,000 per year.
Cost to install $1M.
Annual production $179,000.
5.58 years to pay back initial investment IF the price of electricity does not increase.

Ford F-150 lightning has a 131 kWh battery pack. 131 kWh / 33kWh = 3.97 gallons of gasoline or 131kWh/ 8.9 kWh = 14.7L of gasoline
131 kWh x $0.20/kWh = $26.20 for a full charge.
14.7L of gas x $1.50/L = $22.05

Now put 14.7L of gasoline in your truck and hook up to a trailer and tell me how far you go.

If it costs $1million to build 1mw doesn't it cost $58million for 58mw capacity?

Interesting info, but the fact remains that at this point in time, solar remains an insignificant contributor to the grid. You’re answering questions that no-one is asking there bud. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah it does. I just divided everything by 58.
Ok makes sense, didn't look close enough.
Now add in operation cost, need someone to maintain it. Probably $50-75k annually and misc. Costs.
Was the million to build cost including land?

Lots of boat traffic on Windermere at about $350-$500/ day too.

Guys are flying around helicopters and airplanes just for fun. Race boats, 100ft house boats, yachts. You name it, i love it....😁

That f150 looks ok. Not for me.though.

Not to mention the complete replacement of large sections every time massive hail storms destroy hundreds of them. Can’t have hot sunny days without energy being built up and unleashing it’s wrath

I was once all for the electric push, until realizing that it has nothing to do with being “green” or saving the planet.

The policies/ agenda Is all about centralizing power and control of energy, and monitoring and controlling it in real time. Bad social credit score? Your vehicle will be shut off. Didn’t get your last booster? Sorry your electrical to your house (pod?) has been deactivated. Had negative thoughts about your government? Sorry your food supply is gone until you can be “cured”.

That Lightening looks decent, maybe it’s just the pic, but the grill looks a bit cheap..
